Mail is a great e-mail client which everyone should use. If you're using the GAC webpage for e-mail, you don't know what you're missing. Its easy, quick, and if you wish to learn some stuff, it has powerful features, and its intigrated to work directly with Address Book. In this guide I will show you how to set up an e-mail account with Mail under OS 10.3. If you're using any other version of OS X, its pretty much the same. If you're openign up Mail for the first time it may prompt you for all this info in one little screen. Just put the info in like we have below.
Mail And The Dock
Mail can probably be found in your Applications Folder on your Hard Drive. If its not already in your Dock, drag it in there. When Mail is in your Dock and open, the icon will change to inform you when you have new e-mail.
Set-Up
Open up the Mail program. When the program is open, go up to Mail and down to Preferences.

Depending on what version of Mail you're using you can either click on the Add Account button (in 10.1 or 10.2), in 10.3 you need to click on the Accounts tab.

In 10.3 you'll have to click in the lower right hand corner, on the little + box to make a new account. Once you have done that you'll have to fill in some information.
The first thing you'll need to pick is the Account Type. You'll want to set it to IMAP. This is best for campus usage, and allows you to use both Mail and the campus webpage at the same time.

Next, under Description just call it Gustavus, or school. It does'nt really matter. Then under Email Address put your full Gustavus e-mail address. (ex. jdoe@gac.edu) Next, under Full Name, put your full name. The Incoming Mail Server should be set to gac.edu, User Name should be the first part of your e-mail address, and I hope you remember your password.

Now you need to click on the Server Settings button, and add gac.edu to the incoming server list.

Now you should be set for all your e-mail needs. I have my Mail to automaticly check for e-mail ever five minutes. You can set this up for as much time (or no time) as you want. If you close the mail window, but leave the program open, it'll keep checking for your mail for you.
