Giant Jellyfish Explosion
A while back I wrote that Japan was being attacked by giant jellyfish. Jellyfish the size of small cars. They’ve been washing up on shore in massive numbers as well as causing massive damage to the fishing industry, even capsizing some boats.
The Japanese solutions have not been too successful. First they tried to cut them up with razor wire, which only caused them to multiply. Then they started using them to make food (and candy), but there was no way the world could eat that much jellyfish. Now the solution has been to blame China. (Chinese pollution)
If I was to throw out a guess as to why there was a massive explosion of jellyfish it would be several reasons.
Warming of the seas. Pollution from all of Asia. Overfishing of all the natural predators. Destruction of coastal habitats for the natural predators. All of which are reasons that the entire world is seeing a massive explosion of jellyfish.
It would be nice if Japan took massive steps to protect its coastlines, making 25% “No Fishing” areas. Maybe then the jellyfish population would decrease as well as there being an increase in all fish life around Japan.
