Happy Holidays Through Bentos

Sometime in the 1970s Japanese house wives got bored with life and decided to spice things up. Their solution was to make ever increasingly interesting bento boxes. Bento boxes being a typical Japanese box lunch, much akin to a mom in America making a sandwich and putting in a Mickey Mouse lunch box (like the one my mother melted on the stove when I was in elementary school). As time progressed these bento boxes got more and more complex in a series of ‘one-up-momship’ until it got to the point where kids were no longer allowed to bring their own lunches to school, ending with me being forced to eat school lunch every day.

In recent times the art of bento making has swept to the West where young women with liberal arts degrees are dusting off their Art History majors and making fabulous lunches. I came across one such blog the other day called Adventures in Bento Making where the author was making fun filled Holiday themed bentos. I have thus stolen those images and posted them on my blog for your enjoyment.
